Prompt: The word maelstrom means a big, violent whirlpool or a situation that is really chaotic. I first heard it in a book where the character was feeling a maelstrom of emotions after something big happened in their life. The author used it to show how overwhelming and out of control the character felt. Knowing what maelstrom means helps me describe situations in my writing that feel crazy or messy. It makes my writing clearer and helps people feel the chaos I’m talking about.
